fyreseer just called to tell me that her employer is not going to let her telecommute.
Some backstory...
Once we set our move date for April,
fyreseer went into her boss and told him her last day would be April 12. As word got around, people were expressing that they didn't want her to go - especially some of the sales reps she works with (she's a customer service supervisor). Eventually, that sentiment found its way into a proposal for a telecommuting position in which fyreseer would continue to maintain certain strategic accounts, develop sales reporting and accompany some reps on customer site visits. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's the gist of it.
She spent a whole weekend working up this proposal: creating the whole job description, writing up a feature/benefit analysis, etc. And a few days after she submitted it, the word came down that they would work with her to make it happen.
In the intervening weeks, however, nothing more has been said and a few things have transpired around her office that have had her questioning what was going on.
She was told today that they changed their minds and are not going to allow it. I don't have any more details right now. But it really sux.
I think the worst part of the whole thing is not that they aren't going to let her telecommute, but the way they've treated her. They weren't even planning on telling her for a few more weeks. And they seem to be trying to keep her out of the loop with the goings-on around the office.
Grr.
